The redwood survives. She does not ask herself why she survives; she only does. The redwood is giant. She does not ask herself why she is giant; she only is. The redwood grows and provides shelter under her wide canopy and never questions why: She is the master of her purpose and her self. She does not care to fathom a god or enlightenment, because she knows she is her own god and the world around her is her enlightenment. She is the direct source of her own life and what she experiences and lives is in accordance with this law.
NaPoWriMo 2020 / Thank you.
This is the first month-long writing project I've committed to doing, and it has been a joy. I will likely be leaving dA as Eclipse is introduced on May 20 -- the new interface is overstimulating for me, alienating towards literary deviants, and dampens the community focus which made dA the only art website, really, of its kind. Very few of you know this, but I have been on deviantART since 2007 (just checked). I had joined, apparently, in April of 2007. deviantART has helped me grow as an artist and person, the dA community has helped me get life-saving surgery, expand my art, encourage me to recommit to my artwork, bid me to try new things.
COVID19 Resources + S/O to those on the frontlines
I'm hoping everyone is staying safe as they can and is healthy. I've been working on compiling a list of resources, both resources to help oneself and help others. At this time, self-care is definitely related to caring for those around us as well. My love especially goes out to essential workers and those who cannot afford to quarantine by choice, as well as those who have lost their jobs. I'm again recommending LadyLincoln (https://www.deviantart.com/ladylincoln)'s journal as a homage to the medical workers helping keep so many people alive right now at high-risk to themselves. My gratitude to LadyLincoln (https://www.deviantart.com/ladylincoln), my friend S.V., and my friend's daughter, A.J., for being among t

3. if they shame you for saying no to something or do something to/for you that you told them definitively not to do, move on. i don't care what you're saying no to. this is more important than you think.
4. boundaries can be uncomfortable but if your boundaries get tighter and they sustain that tension, see #3.
5. for boundaries to be a little less difficult, it's important not to say what you don't mean. for instance, if you tell someone to "leave you alone," they should leave you alo
Urban Rainfall
I have learned to fear rainfall, to associate rain with the symptoms of my sickness, but it wasn't always like this. Part of me still loves the rain and wants to celebrate the poetry in it again. So here I am.
I sometimes listen to Halsey just to remember the feeling of rainfall in New York City, how I'd always imagined it even before I ever saw it. There's something inherently intimate about rainy days. It's a bittersweet kind of loneliness -- New York is a perfect illustration of this, but urban rainfall anywhere has a kind of poetry unique to itself.
Without further ado, I'd like to present this week's feature, an ode to urban rainfall:
